Mojada Inc - What's in a Name?

Mojado/a is a word meant to hurt and degrade a latinx person who has crossed over the United States and Mexico border or overstayed their visa. I grew up being called mojada and I'm taking this word and giving it a makeover.
There are multiple reasons why we come here why we stay here. Forced migration is an effect of colonialism, socioeconomic policies, environmental degradation, governmental turmoil, and other outside factors. Sometimes people don't have a choice, they have to make the best of what they have.
I have chosen this name to reclaim my power. A power that they tried to convince me was not real, one they tried to steal and destroy. I started organizing and realized that I had been resisting far longer. Unknowingly I fought back against the xenophobic norms of assimilation. Over the years I have been blessed to be in spaces filled with elders and youth that have inspired me. Mojada Inc started as a blog in 2016 as a way to tell my story and convince others that immigrants were not what we were being made out to be. Now it's about telling our stories and documenting the truths.
I will always stand up for the truth and will never allow others to silence me. I hope that maybe after you can open your eyes and your hearts that you too can stand up even when you are the only voice in the room. Do not falter. And if you stutter make it into a roar cuz i got your back!
